Hello!
My name is Monique Olivier Getzinger and thank you for visiting Keeping It Creole! I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana but now live in southeast Michigan with my husband and we have 4 adult children. My goal is to share my Creole heritage through the New Orleans dishes I prepare.
New Orleans will always be my city and my home. It is a place where family, faith and food are part of everyday life. New Orleans has been struck physically and emotionally by numerous hurricanes, but Hurricane Katrina has been the most destructive in history. It caused its people to relocate with hopes of returning, but many did not or could not go back to New Orleans. This year, 2025, marks the 20th anniversary of the Category 5 Hurricane Katrina, which broke levees and caused the city to lose an estimated 1,833 lives.
The fear of losing New Orleans Creole traditions and recipes was unbearable. My desire for this blog is for you to have a seat at my kitchen table and view what is cooking! I will describe how to create these Creole dishes and offer cooking tips so you will be able to add a touch of Creole to all the meals you prepare.
Welcome to my Creole kitchen! Have a seat and I will fix you something to eat!
Enjoy Keeping It Creole!
Sincerely,
Monique
